National diesel price dips 1.2 cents to $4.073

The national average retail diesel price dropped 1.2 cents to $4.073 a gallon for the week ended Monday, April 30, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. The average price is 5.1 cents below the same week in 2011. The week before, prices were down year over year for the first time since November 2009.
Average prices fell in all regions except in California, where prices rose 1.2 cents to a nation-high $4.396 a gallon. The largest decline was 4.7 cents on the West Coast (excluding California). The nation’s cheapest diesel is in the Midwest, where the average price is $3.971, followed closely by the Gulf Coast at $3.98. Those are the only two regions where diesel currently is, on average, less than $4 a gallon.
