Factory orders down in June

New orders for manufactured goods decreased $2.1 billion, or 0.5%, in June, according to preliminary U.S. Census Bureau numbers. Factory orders have now declined in three of the past four months. Transportation equipment orders — especially aircraft and parts — kept factory orders from falling further; excluding transportation equipment, new orders decreased 1.8%.
New orders for manufactured durable goods in June increased $2.9 billion, or 1.3%, slightly less than what the Census Bureau announced in its advance release.
Factory shipments were down 1.1% in June, and unfilled orders were up 0.3%. Inventories edged up 0.1%.
