Job claims stabilizing following Sandy
November 29, 2012
The level of first-time unemployment claims appears to be settling down to levels typical of recent months after surging temporarily in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Initial claims fell by 23,000 during the week ended Nov. 24 to a seasonally adjusted 393,000. Despite sharp drops in initial claims in the past couple of weeks, due to the post-Sandy surge, the four-week moving average for claims rose by 7,500 to 405,250.
