Durable goods orders fall 5.7%
April 24, 2013
A 48% drop in civilian aircraft orders is primarily responsible for a 5.7% month-to-month drop in seasonally adjusted durable goods orders in March, but even excluding transportation equipment, new orders fell 1.4%, according to advance estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Excluding defense, new orders decreased 4.7%. The decrease in durable goods orders followed a 4.3% increase in February.
Declines in primary metals, fabricated metal products and machinery account for much of that decline. New orders for computers and communications equipment were higher.
